The Gillies are an Americana, Folk singer/songwriter duo from SE London. Their music tells of love, loss, bittersweet and harsh realities, while the distinctive sound of their acoustic guitars create an intense lonesome dark musical style.

“Music for your graveside” is one way they describe their songs. True, there’s darkness in there but also moments of lightness and joy that confirm our existence, and The Gillies can convey all that in just one song. Their sound, a weaving together of steel-strung and tenor guitars, flits between the ethereal and gritty down-home reality. Delivered with unaffected clarity, their work combines bittersweet immediacy with an intangible sense of nostalgia.

Masonry Nails, their third album has eleven original songs produced by award winning Phil Dearing and recorded at LSound London. This album takes on a different feel to their other acoustic albums, having a full band sound on some of the tracks. Mark adding Dobro and Lap steel and slidy things, Susan piano on Dirt Rain, Zac Turner from the MSBand playing piano and co writing some songs. Phil Dearing added his touches of Hammond and electric guitar.

Here’s the title track of Masonry Nails from the duo’s last TwickFolk performance.
