Maz O’Connor first appeared at TwickFolk back in February as opening act for Jim Moray. Since then she has been nominated for the ‘Horizon Award’ in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards which take place in Glasgow in late January. Prevoiously she was also finalist in ‘Young Folk Award’ in 2009. Widely regarded as one of the most promising voices to emerge on the folk scene in recent years Maz is originally from barrow, Cumbria. From her early singing days at Folkworks summer schools, through her year in the youth ensemble run by Kathryn Tickell (Folkestra North), to her performances with the award winning Last Orders at festivals across the U.K., Maz has come a long way in just a few years.

Drawing on both British folk and songwriting traditions, her debut album ‘Upon a Stranger Shore’ arranges traditional and original tracks in subtle and experimental ways. Maz will soon be teaming up with Matthew Jones as support act for the Demon Barbers ‘Lock In’ tour in Spring 2013.`
