TwickFolk celebrates its 40th Anniversary!

The Twickenham Folk & Singers’ Club first opened the Cabbage Patch doors in January 1983. 10 years since he first appeared at TwickFolk, we bring you Luke Jackson with Andy Sharps

Luke Jackson is a Singer-Songwriter from Canterbury.
In recent years he has been developing a reputation for himself on the Folk & Roots circuit and has been nominated for BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards ‘Horizon Award’

Between his debut album ‘More Than Boys’ produced by the acclaimed Welsh Singer-Songwriter Martyn Joseph, which was released in 2012 through to his latest release in 2021, 5 records including a live album ‘Solo, Duo, Trio’ were released and each album received high praise from folks like Maverick, Acoustic Magazine, Mike Harding & R2 Magazine, along with 5* reviews!

November 2016 saw the release of his third full studio album, ‘Tall Tales and Rumours‘ to universal critical acclaim and his live album ‘Solo:Duo:Trio’ was voted 2018 Album of the Year by Laurel Canyon and in 2020 his last studio release ‘Journals’ was voted 2019 Album of the Year by Fatea Magazine.

In the summer 2019 he played the ‘Costa Del Folk’ Festival in Portugal, October marked his first full solo tour in the USA and his latest studio album ‘Journals’ was released in November to great reviews, made ‘Album of the Year’ by Fatea Magazine with R2 Magazine saying ‘Journals’ is an excellent album from a very special singer with a great repertoire, fully confirming his star potential beyond the folk scene’.

After going back to both Europe and the USA in early 2020 for another two successful tours, like many, many others, Luke’s career was ‘put on hold’ by the end of March with the advent of Covid 19. Luke kept himself busy and engaged with the musical community with a series of themed live stream shows and after a bit of a creative writing surge, released a 7 track EP in early 2021 of songs written during lockdown called ‘Of The Time’. Initially a digital release, it is now available in CD format as well and garnered great reviews prompting Fatea magazine to say “Luke Jackson has gifted us with one of the most important and essential releases I’ve heard in quite some time” whilst At The Barrier journal noted “At a time when the gift of music is something to cherish, ‘Of The Time’ is an inspired offering”.

As things opened up again he started 2022 with a prestigious opening slot on the Fairport Convention winter tour.

For this concert, Luke is joined by Andy Sharps on bass as seen in the top video.

Luke’s special guest for the evening is Edwina Hayes.

One of the finest female singer/songwriters this country has produced in years, Edwina brings together English folk, Americana and the rich Northern singer/songwriter tradition to create a sound that’s truly her own.

Highly accomplished she’s toured with such notable performers as Jools Holland, Van Morrison, Nanci Griffith and Loudon Wainwright III to name just a few.

Edwina numbers Michael Parkinson and Mike Harding among her fans and the title track of her album Pour Me A Drink was covered by Nanci Griffith who calls her ‘the sweetest voice in England’.
