Sally Ironmonger & Brian Carter have been writing and performing together for two decades. They have produced four studio albums of songs about shipyards, prostitutes, trips to the seaside, self-deprecating amusing songs and protest anthems. Based in Medway, Kent, they write contemporary folk songs, with a nod to traditional themes. Sally describes their work as “modern folk songs, telling stories and making social comment, making people laugh as well as think”.

Brian has worked as a professional and semi-professional musician all of his adult life and has developed a style which fuses jazz, folk and Latin to produce a unique mix of melody and bass rhythms.

Over the years, the duo have written commissions for BBC documentaries and Broadstairs Folk Week, and have supported artists including Belshazzar’s Feast, Barbara Dickson, Jacqui McShee, Chris Wood and Jez Lowe. They also won the Milkmaid Folk Club Folk Song competition in 2016.
