Benji Kirkpatrick returns to TwickFolk, joined by bassist Pete Thomas.
Prolific roots musician Benji Kirkpatrick is well known for being a founder member of big-band folk trailblazers, Bellowhead, a current member of Faustus and Steeleye Span and sometime Seth Lakeman collaborator. Over the last few years, he has been writing and cooking up plans for his own project, which was unveiled in 2019 as Benji Kirkpatrick & The Excess.
Enlisting fellow ex-Bellowhead member, Pete Flood on drums and Jackie Oates and Megan Henwood collaborator, Pete Thomas on bass, the band recorded their debut album in 2019, ‘Gold Has Worn Away‘, released on Westpark Records.
Before The Excess’ album, Benji’s last offering of original material was on ‘Boomerang‘ (Navigator 2008) – it received much critical acclaim but came at a time when other projects were taking off so they took precedence and the album didn’t receive the live airing it deserved. His most recent solo studio release features the songs of his first musical icon, Jimi Hendrix – ‘Hendrix Songs’ was released in September 2015 on EDJ Records alongside a national tour entitled ‘Bendrix’.
After a slight mis-hap at the end of last year prevented Benji & Pete performing for us, we look forward to welcoming them once again.
