Greg Russell was born, bred and buttered in the city of Chester in Cheshire. His is a musical family, his mum a chorister and dad a singer and multi-instrumentalist, well-known on the folk scene in the North-West of England, Merseyside and North Wales.

Greg began his career in folk singing at the age of 14, performing floor-spots at Chester’s Raven Folk Club but quickly moved on to a wider audience, appearing to great acclaim at Chester Folk Day and Chester Folk Festival, starring in his high school’s production of the rock musical Buddy and playing Guest Nights at various local Folk Clubs in Chester and its wider environs. With remarkable speed, he established himself as a singer, musician, songwriter and song interpreter of great promise.

In 2011, Greg teamed up with fiddler extraordinaire Ciaran Algar of Tri fame and the rest (as they say) is history. Greg and Ciaran have taken the British folk music scene by storm, two BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards are testimony enough to that. They won the Young Folk and Horizon Awards in 2013 and 2014.

Possessed of an extraordinary and utterly distinctive voice Greg is a singer, multi-instrumentalist (Guitar, Bouzouki, Piano), songwriter and interpreter of the finest water. He’s still developing at a dizzying pace before your very eyes. Definitely the man to watch, if you’ve not seen or heard him before, you really should. You won’t be disappointed, that I can promise! (Nick Mitchell, Raven Folk Club)
