Kelley McRae Duo are making a welcome return to TwickFolk following their visit last April. The duo have played shows coast to coast across the United States and Europe and are returning to promote their new album The Wayside.

Says singer/songwriter Kelley McRae, who performs as a duo with her husband Matt Casteilein: “The Wayside is the place at the side of the road where things get left behind, or where you go to rest awhile, or where you go find something you lost along the way.” McRae’s songs sip life from the tension between holding on and letting go, blooming in their rich search for truths.

The record was released in April of 2016 with a sold out release show at the famous Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, TN, and it has been quick to impress critics:  “With hundreds of new releases each year, there are maybe ten or twenty magical moments. The Wayside is one of those moments.” – Mike Penard, Radio France,  “McRae is the real deal, bringing some rare depth to the new school Americana genre.”  – New York Music Daily

The Wayside debuted at #7 on the EuroAmericana radio charts and hit #4 on the Roots Music Report Top 50 Contemporary Folk Album chart alongside names like Patty Griffin and Darrell Scott.  Kelley is touring the UK this Fall in support of the new record.

The BBC’s Bob Harris has called Kelley McRae “brilliant” and film director Wim Wenders, writing in the San Francisco Chronicle, described Kelley McRae’s music as “The last songs that made me cry”.

For the only London gig on their 2014 European tour, Kelley and Matt chose TwickFolk, where they performed this song, “Red Dirt Road”, which is featured on their new album:

Ben Sures is a Canadian singer-songwriter, best known for his unique song writing and  engaging performances across the country over the last 20 years.  Ben’s songs have earned him first, second and Honorary mentions in the John Lennon, International and USA song writing competitions, twice he has had more than one song find its way in to the final rounds in the same year.

Making his TwickFolk début supporting Kelley McCrae, Ben comes recommended by Rebecca Holwegg. We’re looking forward to more songs like this one – and a scholarly discussion of one his recent songs – ‘Love Will Kick Your Ass’.
