SE London based Folk / Americana acoustic duo, The Gillies have visited TwickFolk many a time.

“Music for your graveside” is one way they describe their songs. True, there’s darkness in there but the graveside is also a place to reflect on life, love, loss and the moments of lightness and joy that confirm our existence, and The Gillies can convey all that in just one song. Their sound, a weaving together of steel-strung and tenor guitars, flits between the ethereal and gritty down-home reality. Delivered with unaffected clarity, their work combines bittersweet immediacy with an intangible sense of nostalgia.

In their lyrics they often return to the times when they lived in Norfolk, recollecting places like the iconic Red Lodge Cafe on the A11 and Captain America’s Heavenly Hamburgers.

Susan sings and plays a Harmony Tenor Guitar – Mark (Gilly) plays a Gibson J45 and Dobro.

Their current album ‘No Hiding Place’ was released in January 2019.
